Many authors have personal blogs that they put a lot of time into. Fans sometimes enjoy following their favorite author online. Other writers like to hang around digitally to learn from the masters.
In the genre of Christian mystery and suspense, Brandilyn Collins is one of the top writers. Her blog posts at Forensics and Faith may contain writing tips or just personal updates, but they are always entertaining.
At last year’s American Christian Fiction Writers conference, Brandilyn and some other mystery authors were sitting in the lobby sharing a snack and discussing their works in progress. The conversation went something like this:
“I’m not sure how I should kill him.”
“Shooting or stabbing is out, I suppose. Too cliche.”
“Absolutely. And poison’s been done to death.”
“Could you arrange for him to drown, do you think?”
It was at this point that they became aware of the horrified expressions on the faces of the people at the next table who did not realize that they were mystery writers discussing a fictional victim!
